Bob Marley

Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley (February 6, 1945 - May 11, 1981) is probably the greatest model for reggae music. From the early 1970s, he was one of the major reasons why the reggae genre became known and accepted outside Jamaica over the next decade. During that time, Bob Marley both sang and played while teaching, and in 1971, he signed a contract with Island Records owned by Chris Blackwell, a high-impact record label and many successful releases at that time.

His texts were often about peace, and through his faith as Rastafari cannabis or ganja are also mentioned several times in his songs. .

Unfortunately, the Rastafari belief was also the reason why Bob Marley refused cancer treatment towards the end of the 1970s when it opposed the belief in cutting meat, and in 1981 he died of lung cancer, liver and brain cancer. He was immediately proclaimed national hero of Jamaica's Prime Minister Michael Manley and awarded Jamaica's highest order, the Order of Merit, and up to half of Jamaica's population of 2.5 million people attended Bob.
